As well as school and tertiary education tours Gertrude Contemporary encourages special interest groups based in Melbourne and beyond to visit the gallery and studio spaces. Each tour of the gallery spaces and studios focuses on the interests of the group and discussion is built around the individual art object and exhibition as a whole. Tours include a discussion of the current exhibition as well as a brief overview of Gertrude Contemporary’s 25-year history. A visit with a current studio artist in their studio is an optional extra.
Catering to each group’s course outcomes and interests, programs for visitors include guided tours and other options. For all guided programs Gertrude Contemporary suggests that the group guide discusses the intended outcomes of the visit as well as the group’s needs and interests.
Cost: Guided tours of the current show also include a brief history of Gertrude Contemporary and these tours are free of charge. These tours must be booked ahead of time.
Extras: Each tour may include a Studio visit with a current Studio Artists. The benefits include a Q and A session as well as the exposure to a ‘working’ studio practice. Each visit with a studio artist, guided by a member of Gertrude Contemporary Staff is $4 per head with a $50 minimum charge.
