Gertrude Contemporary offers a range of residency programs for visiting international and interstate, artists and curators, for periods of between two weeks to three months. Participants in the residency program stay in Gertrude Contemporary’s fully-appointed residential apartment/studio, Studio 18, that is located on the top floor of Gertrude Contemporary’s gallery complex. During their residency the participants will gain opportunities to become involved in Gertrude Contemporary’s cultural community, pursue independent studio practice, and on occasion engage with cultural exchange projects.

As part of Gertrude Contemporary’s residency program the organisation facilitates a Visiting Curator Program in partnership with Arts Victoria and the Australia Council. The Visiting Curators Program is by invitation and curators undertake a program of studio and gallery visits, engaging with local artists and ideas with a view to establishing new networks and conversations internationally.

In addition Gertrude Contemporary has reciprocal residency exchanges with several international contemporary art spaces including Firestation, Dublin and National Arts Council and Incubator, Singapore. These residencies offer studio artists from each art space the opportunity to undertake exchange residencies at the partnering institutions.
