Alex Martinis Roe is a current candidate for a Masters of Fine Arts by Research from Monash University having been awarded the Silver Jubilee Scholarship. She completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) from Monash University in 2005. Alex has shown at Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces (Melbourne), Salzburg International Academy for Fine Arts, Conical Inc (Melbourne), Canberra Contemporary Art Space, Spectrum Project Space (Perth), Spacement Gallery (Melbourne), Linden St Kilda Centre for Contemporary Arts (Melbourne), TCB art inc (Melbourne), Bus Gallery (Melbourne) and Seventh Gallery (Melbourne). Alex has been published in Eyeline magazine and been written about in Un Magazine, Realtime and the West Australian. She is also a studio artist representative on the Gertrude Board of Management, curator of Slide for 2007 (GCAS) and a member of the curatorial selection committee for Next Wave Festival 2008. Alex was a panellist for the Drag Mash Forum 2006 at Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces and was a speaker for the Pompidou Talks at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image 2007. Alex also had a Studio 12 solo exhibition at Gertrude Contemporary Art Spaces in 2007. She is a recipient of a City of Melbourne Young Artists Grant for 2007 and is co-reviewer of Art Attack art review segment on Richard Watt’s Smart Arts Program (RRR FM).
